B-BALL RADIO Podcast celebrating Hoop Dreams 30th Anniversary
The new podcast hosted by Bobbito Garcia & Eric Newman delves into basketball culture’s past, present and future in a “mixtape” format with featured guests from all different backgrounds.
Everything Basketball is back for the fall and with it some exciting news around its podcast compliment B-Ball Radio. This past spring while catching up with my long time friend and one of my creative inspiration’s, Bobbito Garcia, we decided it was time to work together again and after a couple of brainstorms we landed on created a new podcast, B-Ball Radio.
As Bobbito and I are both basketball lovers and storytellers we thought about all the incredible storytellers and culture shifters who have been out there creating greatness over the years which inspired us to create this show.
Like anything else, building something sustainable and successful takes time as we started to record episodes in June as the summer basketball vibe has always been a big part of our collective DNA. I am so blessed to be working with someone of Bob’s caliber on this, as his spirit, knowledge and experience on the microphone shines through with every episode. As we both share a unique love of the pick ‘n pop game, basketball cinema and the decades of basketball culture we’ve bonded over since meeting 18 years ago I couldn’t be prouder to be sharing our show and this special episode celebrating the 30th anniversary of Hoop Dreams with the world.
Our conversation with Arthur Agee and William Gates (the co-stars of Hoop Dreams) who helped change the landscape of basketball culture and storytelling three decades ago is one of the most enjoyable hoop convos I have EVER been a part of. You can check out the episode now via the youtube link below or for straight audio via apple podcasts, spotify or amazon music.
Along with posting our most recent Hoop Dreams episode I wanted to share our other previous episodes with you all as they are all meant to be evergreen and timeless. Our range of guests and topics have been so unique along with the raw emotion created by many of our stories. Whether it is Arthur and William sharing the the staying power of Hoop Dreams three decades removed, Coach turned author Rus Bradburd sharing the recruitment of Tim Hardaway out of Chicago to UTEP, The Professor sharing his AND1 tour buzzer beater moment at MSG to changing the basketball content landscape, Eddie House reliving what it was like to drop 61 points against Cal (the school he wanted to attend), author Jesse Washington sharing his experience of working with the late great John Thompson or the one and only DJ Rich Medina dunking on Rick Fox and Tarheels in college these have been some of the most authentic and insightful basketball convos imaginable. To also do special episodes geared towards the Dream Team and celebrating the memory of Kobe Bryant through our shared experiences of being around him has made this even more special.
I hope you can find time to watch or listen to our episodes which I’ve shared below, subscribe/follow our podcast and spread the word to your other basketball crazed friends. On social media, please follow us on instagram and tik-tok @bballradio.
As we release more shows I will post them here on Everything Basketball upon release along with resuming my writing rhythm which I appreciate you waiting patiently for.
